Son of Yousuf Mead and Deka Sahal. Has one younger sister, Hana. Has been training with the Elite division of the Oregon Track Club since 2012. In 2014, set a personal-best time of 13:02.80 in the 5,000-meter, which ranked No. 10 all-time in the U.S. at that distance. Six-time NCAA All-American at the University of Minnesota. Named 2009 Big Ten Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. Participated in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, placed 11th in the 5000m.
